Reflecting the Book

Talking Donkey

The Talking Donkey
[Numbers 22:28-30] Then the LORD opened the donkey’s mouth, and she said to Balaam, “What have I done to you to make you beat me these three times?” Balaam answered the donkey, “You have made a fool of me! If I had a sword in my hand, I would kill you right now.” The donkey said to Balaam, “Am I not your own donkey, which you have always ridden, to this day? Have I been in the habit of doing this to you?” “No,” he said.

Funny I never heard/read this story until just a couple years ago. In 20 years of studying the Bible, I don’t know how I ever missed this story. It even seems to be in some children’s books.

Here’s a pretty good explanation of the full story.

The Lord speaks to us many ways: a friend, a loved one, a whisper, an experience, even a donkey. The real issue is…are we listening?

The GOD of the universe has a plan and a purpose for everything. Although the donkey felt worthless, down and out, and Lost in a crazy world. The King Jesus Christ was on his way to ride on that donkey and proclaim his name; fullfilling his plan and purpose. That donkey didnt see it at the time he was tied up, but God used him to become part of history.
