Elite: Neal Peart
I’m kicking off a new series dedicated to those who are the best of the best. I’m pretty excited about this series as I’ve been planning it for a few weeks and done quite a bit of research. I hope you enjoy and agree these people are the “Elite”.
Back when I was in 8th grade a cousin of my (Jeff H) introduced me to Rush. I immediately fell in love with their music. Funny story, I begged my mom to take me to see Rush. I really only knew a handful of their song from “Moving Pictures” album (prior to CD).
We arrived at the concert late and caught the opening act (which we didn’t know). Well that opening act was Metallica and boy were they hard. Funny thing is I didn’t know it wasn’t Rush so the whole opening act I was like, I never heard these song and the songs are crazy hard metal.
Finally after they left the set Rush took their place. Wow, what an amazing show. I was hooked for life. Since then I’ve seen 6 Rush shows. Once I even went alone. Running late w/ no ticket I happened to bump into a guy who was just happy to unload a ticket. Turns out that ticket was 3rd row center main floor. That was just nuts. I was smushed between two different sets of friends and I just rocked out all by myself. That was great!
The most recent concert I saw was vaper trails 2002 with my buddy John A. To my amazement Neal Peart is just as good today at 55 years old as when I saw him 25 years ago! Some will argue there are better drummers out there. There may be 3 or 4 other guys in the team photo but Neal IMO is the master.
