Drive to Florida… We made it!!!
The 20+ hour drive from Chicago to FL went pretty well. We started off with a rough start getting stuck in construction traffic on I65 right before Indianapolis and not being able to get off at an exit when Nathan told us he had to go potty. Needless to say we had our first “accident” less than 2 hours into the trip. Brandon started a journal on the drive, documenting ALL of our stops and what roads we were taking. He is adding drawings and cutout photos from brochures we picked up. Both boys enjoyed watching Nemo, The Incredibles, Monsters Inc, and a number of other movies on their new dual screen car DVD players. Most of the time it kept them quiet. We stopped at Cave City, KY and took a tour of Mammoth Caves on Monday morning. We toured the new entrance cave (2 hr, ¾ mile tour). The boys absolutely loved it. We saw stalactites, stalagmites and crawled through tunnels and down hundreds of steps to huge cave rooms. Side note: Brandon asked the park ranger if some of the rock walls were green because it was LIMEstone. LOL Photos will be posted. We drove straight through the second half of the trip really enjoying the mountain views of Chattanooga, TN. As we headed into Atlanta we ran into a little bit of traffic and some construction just past Macon, GA. As we entered Florida it was smooth sailing. We got to The Villages around 11:00pm and boy were we beat! We are now ready to run out for breakfast and hit the pool. A day of relaxing before checking into Mike Ditka’s Runaway resort in Orlando later this afternoon and the “magic” of Disney World tomorrow! http://www.runawaybeachhotel.com/
