Amusing Political Process
Obama wins the latest primary Guam. GUAM? What the heck? Since when do they get a vote? Reading “Obama wins Guam by a whisker” I found myself laughing inside a couple times.
Isn’t it kinda odd Guam can vote in the primary but not in the general election?
I found this line funny
“A lot of people were confused by the process,” said Robert Lizama, a local mayor
Ok either you pick the pretty black man or the handsomely rugged Clinton. What’s so difficult about that?
Hussein Obama won Guam by 7 votes. RECOUNT CONTROVERSY!!!
Isn’t curious a self proclaimed Christian keeps his Muslim name? I guess it’s convenient to be all things to all people.
By the way Guam contributed 4 votes to Democratic primary.

You’re kidding, right? We’re actually still working this Muslim thing? The politics of fear I guess, what ever works.
I recently converted to Catholicism. Perhaps I should change my name to O’Malley.
Love thy neighbor? As long as they’re not Muslim. He’s white and not condemning America so I guess that makes this OK.

Sleeper are you serious? Are you comparing Parsley to Wright? I don’t get what you’re trying to say. I’ve never heard this guy Parsley speak before so I can not validate his entire body of work but what he says in the clip you reference does not seem all that inaccurate. I will admit the line about America being founded in part to see Islam destroyed seems inaccurate.
No one is playing the race card with the exception of Wright when he talks (& reaffirms) that whites created AIDS to give to the blacks. The Tuskegee thing… well ok that seems to have some legs. But that happened some 70 years ago. It’s not like Bush or any other current politician had anything to do with that.
Wrights comments “God Damn America” & “America had it coming” from the pulpit are far more of an issue then what this Parsley guy is saying.
Sleeper asked “He’s white and not condemning America so I guess that makes this OK.” What did he say that was so offensive? And I’d ask “He’s black and condemning America so I guess that makes this OK.”?
I don’t see how the black/white issue is being made here but YES condemning America is a problem coming from the 20 year senior pastor of a potential President, IMO.
There is clearly a double standard when it comes to Wright. Parsley essentially tears down an entire religion and it’s followers. My guess is he has no idea what the teachings of Islam are. And I thought Jesus
taught love and understanding. Maybe this guy missed Sunday school that day.
Pastor John Hagee called Catholics “the Great Whore.” I guess that
makes me a whore.

McCain gleefully accepted his endorsement by the way.
Jerry Falwell said the ACLU should take a lot of the blame for 9/11 and Pat Roberson agreed.

I guess he thought “America had it coming” too! Yet, these guys seem to be getting/have gotten a pass from the religious right.
Also, why is anyone focusing on his middle name or what religion his father belonged to? Shouldn’t we be focusing on the issues like the economy, health care, education, Iraq, and an energy policy? Why does junk like what the guy’s pastor said when he wasn’t there or what his wife said or what religion his father was matter? Shouldn’t we be focusing on what really matters or are we all just so used to this petty stuff that we can’t change our way of thinking?
I think when people say they want change this is what they want. They want candidates to focus on the issues and not this nit picky crap that seems to have consumed us in the past. Stop trying to scare us into not voting for the other guy and tell us why we should vote for you.
The Republicans have used fear for eight years to get their way. Fear of terrorist attacks, fear of raising taxes, fear of taking away guns, fear that the guy just isn’t Christian enough… Seems Americans are finally seeing through these tactics. I’m hoping neither one resorts to the them this time around, but McCain hasn’t started off well. This whole Hamas thing is a joke and Chris Mathews exposed just how stupid it is or at least how stupid conservative talk show host Kevin James is.

I should have been more specific. What I should have said is he’s white and he’s not condemning WHITE CONSERVATIVE America so that makes it OK. If Wright had stood up there and railed on blacks as the cause of the problems this wouldn’t even be a story. Look, I don’t agree with
Wright but I’m not going to be ridiculous enough to project his beliefs on
to one of his parishoneers.
Parsley essentially tears down an entire religion and it’s followers. My guess is he has no idea what the teachings of Islam are. Were destroying other religions part of Jesus’ teachings? Maybe I missed Sunday school that day.
There certainly is a double standard when it comes to this. Below are some other prominent religious leaders that have said things as bad or worse that what Wright said, yet seem to get a pass from the religious right.

He also essentially said that Hitler was fulfilling God’s will.

McCain flip-flopped on his endorsement by the way.
