American Idol

It’s down to the final 12. Last year I pegged how the top 6 finished with the exception of getting Bo & Carrie switched. Here’s how I see this season ending up.

Gina GlocksenHero: I’m pulling for local gal Gina Glocksen (Naperville). I just don’t think she can crack the top 4. I’m sure she’ll be hooked up after the show ends in some capacity.

Sanjaya MalakarZero. Sanjaya, time to go home. India nation must be watching AI. That’s the only reasonable explanation why Sanjaya is still in the running.

Lakisha Jones4th place: Lakisha can sing baby! She’s this year’s Mandisa. Unfortunately for her, like Mandisa, her looks/appearance will be her down fall. Lakisha definitely makes AI worth watching.

Blake Lewis3rd place: There’s really only 3 guys worthy of making the top 12. Blake Lewis is best of the guys hands down. His unique style is pretty sweet. Blake has a outside shot of being the next American Idol, depending on how well Chris Richardson does. Here’s where politics comes into play. Chris is pretty similar to Blake. Once Chris gets voted out chances are that Blake will get the majority of Chris’ votes. Which could catapult Blake to #1.

Melinda Doolittle2nd place: Melinda has an amazing voice. She’s clearly Simon’s favorite to this point. Melinda has the talent worthy of being the next American Idol. I just think her age (29) and her looks will not be enough to carry her past the winner.

Stephanie Edwards

1st place: The next American Idol is Stephanie Edwards. Stephanie is the total package. Vocals straight from heaven, attractive, youth (19), attitude. She has a throw back style back similar to the Supremes era. In the end she’s more of a showmen then Melinda is and vocally superior to Blake. So far she’s received praise every week but Melinda has been getting most of the judges love. Once the bottom six are gone look for Stephanie to separate from the pack.

Today’s my Birthday. Three years to 40… what the heck. How did I get sooo old?

Funny thing, the first song I heard on the radio today was “Time” by Pink Ployd.

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way
Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it’s sinking
And racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you’re older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death
Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
The time has gone, the song is over, thought I’d something more to say
BREATHE REPRISE
Home, home again
I like to be here when I can
When I come home cold and tired
It’s good to warm my bones beside the fire
Far away across the field
The tolling of the iron bell
Calls the faithful to their knees
To hear the softly spoken magic spells.

Crappy start for the day. Then I had this massive headache all day. I don’t normally get headaches so I was pretty grumpy. Blah blah blah…

Cedrick Benson’s Rock

Cedrick BensonThe Bears traded my favorite and most underrated Bear Thomas Jones to the Jets today. As much as I loved TJ I agree it was time for him to go since he’s 29 and it’s well documented that running back see significant decline at age 30. Thomas Jones was looking for a long contract which he got from the Jets. I’m glad Jerry Angelo was able to get some value in the trade.

Jones was/is a class act. It’s unfortunate that his career will be one that won’t be remembered like some of the other great RBs.

I really do feel–and no one will ever change this–that if given the opportunity to succeed at the beginning of his career that he would justify his #7 Overall Selection. If he would have had year after year of 1200+ yd rushing seasons he would be mentioned with RBs like Ahman Green of Green Bay, Tiki Barber formally of the Giants, others like Clinton Portis. Guys who aren’t 1st ballot HOFers, but who are/were EXCELLENT RBs in their day in age.

The guy just flat out plays, and you can’t ask anything more from a football player to lay it on the line for everything. A guy who works out, and pushes himself for that extra bit, a locker room leader and just a darn good football player. Unfortunately there are few players like Thomas Jones around the NFL, and the media would rather focus themselves on the controversies like TO’s and Randy Moss’s of the NFL that they forget that football isn’t about those guys.

Cedrick has some big shoes to fill. I hope his time to excel is now.
