Fire Angelo!
Jerry Angelo and the Bears act like they’ve won the Superbowl with a dynasty team. I don’t understand how the Bears improved their team today. The Bears finished the season last year with the 2nd best overall defense and 1st in points allowed. Yet the offense ranked 28th.
So what have the Bears done in the off season to improve their offense? Signed a very capable BACK-UP QB! (Brian Griese)
Angelo needs to go to the school of Kenny Williams who did in fact win a championship. The World Champion White Sox did not stay satisfied with the make up of their championship team. Kenny Williams made some great decisions and made the team better. Not with just one blockbuster move either. He did it by changing 25% of the teams’ roster.
I hate the probability that the Bears will make the playoffs again this year despite an inept front office. How hard will it be for the Bears, returning all 22 starters & leagues best defense, to beat Minnesota, Green Bay, and Detroit? All three division rivals have new head coaches. Detroit & Minnesota have new QBs and Green Bay has a old crusty one.
It’s just pathetic that the Bears are happy to be dominating their division and not considering Washington, NY Giants, Dallas, and Carolina their main competition. All four of these teams have made major signings in the off season. Not to mention they were not arrogant enough to trade away their #1 draft pick and then draft a division 2 player with their first pick.
The only way the offense improves is if Rex Grossman doesn’t spend a minute on the DL, which he’s spent 2 of his 3 years on, and if Cedric Benson can significantly out play Thomas Jones. Thomas Jones was the 9th best RB in the league last year (1300+ yards in 15 games). If Benson can’t carry the rock for more then 1,500 yards I’d consider him another Angelo failure.
I just figured out Angelo’s draft philosophy… draft players at positions you’re already good at.
Former Bears vs Current Bears
Three players released between 2001 and 2003 were more productive than three years worth of Bears offense.
Eddie Kennison: Released in 2001, the year Jerry Angelo arrived on the scene. Since then Kennison has caught 270 passes for 4,438 yards and 21 touchdowns.
YEAR TM GMS RCPT YDS AVG TD
2000 CHI 16 55 549 10.0 2
2001 DEN 8 15 169 11.3 1
2001 KAN 5 16 322 20.1 0
2002 KAN 16 53 906 17.1 2
2003 KAN 16 56 853 15.2 5
2004 KAN 14 62 1086 17.5 8
2005 KAN 16 68 1102 16.2 5
Bobby Engram: Angelo called it “pruning” — he deemed Engram too slow for the high octane offense planned. Angelo projected Bobby Wade as a tougher, more explosive receiver. We all know what happened to Wade this season. Since leaving the Bears Engram has caught 234 passes for 2,933 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Marcus Robinson: After an injury in 2001, John Shoop slotted Robinson at the bottom of the Bears depth chart. In 2002 Angelo declared Robinson had lost his explosiveness and that Justin Gage would be our new vertical threat. Since then Robinson has caught 109 passes for 1,623 yards for 19 touchdowns and an average of 14.9 yards per catch.

2004 MIN 16 47 657 14.0 8
2005 MIN 15 31 515 16.6 5
In total these three players accounted for 613 receptions, 8,994 yards and 51 touchdowns. All the receivers, running backs and tight ends in Chicago through 2003, 2004 and 2005 — a total of 26 players — combined for 730 receptions, 7,747 yards and 32 touchdowns. Ouch.
Strike Three
Ever wonder why in the world a strike-out is referred to as a “K”? Last year at a Cubs game I asked 10 people sitting around me and not one person knew. I shouldn’t have expected more… come on they’re Cub fans.
Having a thirst for knowledge like any normal (Sox) fan I searched out the meaning.
The “K” or “K-S” refers to how strike-outs are recorded on the scorecard.
Some scorers record strikeouts where the batter didn’t swing at the last pitch with a backwards-facing K, also recorded as K-C. The use of “K” for a strikeout was invented by Henry Chadwick, a newspaper journalist. The letter “S” was used to coin “sacrifice” so Mr. Chadwick decided to use “K”, with “K” being the last letter in “struck”. Mr. Chadwick also invented many other baseball scoring abbreviations, such as using numbers to designate player positions. Although some people use SO, that is typically used to denote a shutout.
The top 3 Major League Baseball career strikeout leaders (active players in bold):
1. Nolan Ryan - 5714
2. Roger Clemens - 4502
3. Randy Johnson - 4372
Liberals & Conservatives: Hypocrites
J-Dub accused me of throwing up some softballs lately so I’ll bring the “stuff” today. Here comes the high inside heat…
So check it out liberals are generally pro-choice, a neat way of saying “we kill fetuses”. Yet these same liberals generally are the ones who oppose capital punishment. How does this make any sense? Let’s kill the unborn child who’s yet to defile society while saving the murdering rapist from death because they’re helpless “rehabilitatable” people who have the same right to life the rest of us enjoy.
Ok conservatives don’t stand up and cheer so fast…
The other side of the coin, generally pro-lifers fight for every inch they can get to protect the unborn children. Yet conservatives generally are the same people that want to kill off the scum who have sinned against society. How does this make sense?
Seems to me these issues are in the “right to life” bed together.
I have to agree with Mr. 30% err W. Bush when he said, “It’s always better to error on the side of life”. I’ve been pro capital punishment up to this very day. I would concede it in a heart beat if it meant that unborn children were protected and had the right to life. Let the scum bags rot in jail. Yeah we’ll have to pay a little extra but I think it would be worth it. After all, only 60 people on death row were executed in 2005.
Meaninglis TV
Here’s an update on what I’ve been watching.
24: The best show on TV keeps getting better and better. The last three weeks I’ve found myself saying “this was the best episode yet” I have so many questions I can’t wait to see if they’re answered. Will Secretary Heller die? Will the Presidents actions become public or stay within the walls of their administration? Will the President meet his demise? If so, it would be dumb if it’s Jack. I’m pulling for Aaron Pierce to take justice into his own hands. Who will get the last laugh Jack or Henderson? I’m also hoping Jack will die. The show would be better without him. It’s not that Keifer’s a good actor it’s just that show’s made him into a MacGyver James Bond love child or something. Oh and Doctor Romano joined the cast this week. I used to love that guy on ER.
American Idol: It’s getting down to the intense time when fat is trimmed from the meat. This is Kelly’s last day on Idol. Nothing against the girl but her talent’s just taken her as far as it can. I’m still pulling for Chris and my dark horse Katherine. Once its down to the final four (Chris, Katherine, Paris, and Taylor) it will come down to their individual performances which makes the show fun to watch each week from here on out.
Paula Abdul has got to go. I can’t take another season of AI with Paula on the show.
Survivor: Survivor’s starting to get a little old for me. I’m still interested in seeing this season through but I feel like I’m watching because there’s nothing better on. I’m pulling for Terry the retired US Air Force pilot. The odds are stacked against Terry so it will be fun to see if the underdog can pull it out. I can’t wait for the day Shane gets voted out.
